A public toilet like you’ve never seen!
- It has been said that the cleanliness and amenities of Japan’s public restrooms are a symbol of the country’s culture of hospitality. THE TOKYO TOILET is a series of public restrooms in 17 locations throughout Shibuya City that take comfort and accessibility to the next level. The designers involved in the project are a group of professionals at the vanguard of their fields: Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma, Toyo Ito, Masamichi Katayama, and others.
- The restrooms are not only well designed, but also incorporate maintenance features that make them more comfortable for users. The Nippon Foundation, Shibuya City, and the Shibuya City Tourism Association (an incorporated foundation) joined efforts to lead the project and are managing the facilities with input from an official restroom diagnostician. It may not be very long before fans start embarking on “restroom tours” to seek out these innovative creations.
