  • The Togetsukyo Bridge (lit. “Moon Crossing Bridge”), named for how the moon seems to cross over it at night, is a popular spot for encountering exquisite scenery framed by Mt. Arashiyama’s grand natural surroundings. Walk upstream from the bridge to be greeted by Shoraian, a restaurant serving seasonal tofu kaiseki cuisine. This elegant Japanese-style residence, once a villa of former Japanese Prime Minister Fumimaro Konoe (1891-1945), gives a sense of approaching autumn leaves for how it seems to have been built pressed up against a giant monolith. Such a singular view is a wondrous feast in and of itself.
  • Using the tongue and eyes to take in seasonal foods beautifully presented, all while experiencing a pleasant autumn breeze – that’s a sure way to enjoy autumnal Kyoto with all five senses.
