  • It is another feature of Osaka that ‘Hare (formal, sacred)’ restaurants and ‘Ke (informal, earthy)’ ones coexist in parallel just like the stance of the city. While there are pioneers of authentic Spanish restaurants like ‘El Poniente’, there are so many casual ones, too, such as ‘Oxymoron Kitahama’ serving curry and sweets which are popular among young women, Ramen restaurants, and ones serving so-called ‘Konamon (wheat flour dishes).’
  • “Although the latter are considered ‘Ke’ restaurants, it doesn’t mean they are B-grade. That’s the reason why Osaka is called a paradise of foods. Even casual restaurants serving Okonomiyaki or Takoyaki can offer first-class tastes here.”
  • Even if you happen to drop in an unknown restaurant for the first time just because you find the waterfront landscape is good, it will become one of your favorite places if you keep returning there. Although you may go to the restaurant just once a year, you will become a regular customer. For that reason, Mr. Ebe recommends you go to a restaurant repeatedly to become a regular customer so that you can enjoy happier times there.
