  • One of the enjoyments of the hotel is its unique activities. THE HOTEL HIGASHIYAMA offers “KYO-IROHA” activities through which guests can experience the culture of Kyoto. The lineup includes “Karakami woodblock printing workshop”, “Pottery wheel workshop”, “Buddhist sutra copying workshop” at the Chion-in, “Kyo folding fan decoration workshop” and “Japanese traditional sweets workshop”.
  • The main feature of these activities is the ability for participants to receive instruction from craftsmen, monks and instructors who have spent years refining skills that have been passed down for generations.
  • In the popular “Karakami woodblock printing workshop” activity, participants visit the Karamaru Studio located in Shimogyo Ward, and after receiving an explanation of karakami woodblock printing, they are able to create their own karakami print while receiving detailed instruction. Another part of this activity’s appeal is the selection of three different courses: “Postcard printing”, “Karakami paper printing + workshop tour” and “Goshuin stamp book cover printing”. The completed works of art can be taken home the same day, and the goshuin stamp book can be used for the goshuin received when visiting a shrine or temple. Take the time to ask about the “KYO-IROHA” activities when making a reservation to stay at the hotel. Stay in Kyoto will be great experience.
