- Shoren-in Temple, one of the five Monzeki temples of the Tendai sect, is a famous temple located in a quiet part of Higashiyama / Okazaki. It is said to have been relocated to its current location from the East Pagoda of Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hiei at the end of the Heian Era. The temple gardens also have a long history. The water garden in the eastern part of the temple is said to have been designed by Souami. There, you can enjoy the refined elegance of the garden while walking around the pond. Also, the Kirishima Garden to the north of the Kacho-den building was designed by Kobori Enshu. Both gardens have exquisite seasonal beauty.
