  • During the Taisho period (1912-1926), the Aoyama family, who made a fortune from herring fishing, spent six years building this villa. The two-story wooden villa of 190 tsubo (628.1m²) was built on a site of about 1,500 tsubo (4958.67m²), using an abundance of Japanese cypress and zelkova as building materials, and the design, interior, furnishings, and garden were designed with the utmost luxury. The tree peonies, grass peonies, cherry blossoms, and other flowers decorate the garden every season, creating a luxurious atmosphere. It was designated as a registered national tangible cultural property in 2010.
